Tips for Choosing the Right Brussels Sprouts
When perusing the Brussels sprouts in the grocery aisle, you're probably faced with a wide array of choices. How can you know which ones to pick?
- First and foremost, freshness is key - look for Brussels sprouts that have a vibrant green hue and feel nice and firm to the touch. Don't worry if there's some yellowing or wilting around their edges – that usually indicates they've been harvested at the peak of their flavor.
- Avoid black spots or if they look banged up, nothing that is banged up is good haha!
- The smaller the sweeter! The bigger the more it tastes like, well cabbage! And I'm in the business of disguising vegetables to not taste poisonous!
- Make sure they are all around the same size so they cook evenly.
Once you've settled on a bunch, give them a rinse with cold water before adding them to your recipe. Or better yet...
With these tips in mind, you'll be able to select Brussels sprouts that take any meal from beige to superfood in no time!
How to Prep Brussel Sprouts to roast in the oven
Roasting Brussels sprouts is a great way to bring out their sweetness and it's a very easy process. To make the most delicious batch of roasted Brussels, first, preheat your oven to 375°F. Wash the sprouts, trim off their ends, and halve them. Toss the prepared sprouts with Organic Avocado Oil, salt, and pepper in a mixing bowl. Once everything is evenly coated, spread the Brussels on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 25-30 minutes - keep an eye on them as they can burn quickly!
